How to Optimize Performance After Migrating to BC Cloud

For those transitioning from an older on-premises solution, such as Navision or an earlier version of Business Central, the move to the cloud is a significant shift. It brings opportunities like scalability, accessibility, and automatic updates, but it also requires adapting to new ways of working.

If you’ve recently migrated, it’s important to know that practices optimized for older, on-premises systems may not always deliver the best performance in the cloud.

Factors like resource management, server instance allocation, and search functionality work differently in a shared cloud environment, and understanding these differences can help you get the most out of your new solution.

Mikael’s top tips for optimizing your BC Cloud performance

To help ease this transition, we’ve spoken with Mikael Hansen, Senior Consultant and Product Manager to get his insights and practical advice.

Based on his experience with customers, here are Mikael’s top tips for optimizing your BC Cloud performance:

Avoid opening multiple BC clients at the start of your workday.
Starting your day by opening several BC clients simultaneously can lead to all sessions being assigned to the same “Server Instance,” which may impact performance. Mikael advises opening new clients only when needed.

Optimize searches by using filters instead of full-page searches.
Mikael highlights that searching across all columns on list pages can be resource-intensive. Instead, using a filter for a specific column is often faster and more efficient.

Address slow performance by managing Server Instances.
If you notice slow performance, Mikael suggests that another user in the same Server Instance might be causing the issue. Closing and reopening the client can help, as the system's load balancer will assign you to a less occupied Server Instance.
